About the day

This sailing begins in the small village of Thurne, located close to the confluence of the River Bure and the River Thurne. Heading out onto the River Thurne you will pass by the iconic Thurne Mill - the only white mill on the Broads. The itinerary for today’s sailing will be decided on the day by the skipper, and will depend on the weather conditions. During the journey we will find a quiet corner to pause for lunch. Towards the end of the afternoon you will turn off the River Thurne and head along the narrow channels of Womack Dyke to reach your destination - Womack Staithe.

This sailing will be aboard one of our three wherry yachts: Olive, Norada or White Moth. These surviving wherry yachts were all built by the Wroxham based boatbuilder and designer Ernest Collins. They spent over three decades within his hire fleet, followed by a period of mixed fortunes in private ownership after World War II, before they were reunited in 2012 by the Wherry Yacht Charter Charitable Trust.

Please park at Womack Staithe, Horsefen Road, Ludham NR29 5QG. The minibus will collect passengers at 9.15am and transfer them to Thurne, ready to sail at 10am.

We operate on "wherry time", subject to wind and tide, and so our arrival and any interim stops may not always be as planned.
