About the day

This trip begins in the tiny village of Ranworth, home to Ranworth Broad Nature Reserve and the beautiful medieval church known as the Cathedral of the Broads. Leaving Malthouse Broad and joining the Bure, we head downstream to join the River Thurne and sail to the village of the same name with its iconic white windmill. Turning there we'll head to Acle Bridge before returning up the Bure to pass St Benet's Abbey and finish at South Walsham, a beautiful Broad with picturesque views seemingly a hundred miles from the rest of the world.

This sailing will be aboard Norada. Named after a famous racing yacht, Norada was built by Ernest Collins in 1912 with a more slender hull compared to previous wherries. She is the only one of our wherries with a boom.

Please park in the car park at the junction of Kingfisher Lane and Fleet lane, South Walsham, NR13 6ED. The minibus will pick passengers up 9.25 and take to Ranworth in time to sail at 10.00. We operate on "wherry time", subject to wind and tide, and so our arrival and any interim stops may not always be as planned.
