About the day
This Museum and Sail experience begins at the Museum of the Broads, a museum in the boating centre of Stalham, dedicated to Broadland life.
From the museum you’ll glide silently out to Barton Broad on Marsh Harrier, their electric launch (regrettably their steam launch 'Falcon' is currently out of commission). At Barton Broad swap electric for sail power and enjoy a sail around the Broad aboard one of our wherry yachts, then switch back to Marsh Harrier back to the museum at Stalham. The whole experience lasts around two hours. The last trip of the day (3pm) will go out on Marsh Harrier and sail back to the museum. Your Museum and Sail ticket also covers entry to the Museum of the Broads. Please allow time to visit, or talk to the Museum before your boat trip about returning on another day. Museum open Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and school holiday Mondays, from 1000 to 1600.
The 'sail' section of the Museum and Sail experience will be aboard one of our three wherry yachts: Olive, Norada or White Moth. These surviving wherry yachts were all built by the Wroxham based boatbuilder and designer Ernest Collins. They spent over three decades within his hire fleet, followed by a period of mixed fortunes in private ownership after World War II, before they were reunited in 2012 by the Wherry Yacht Charter Charitable Trust.
