How Hill to Barton & return, catered sailing aboard Ardea

This sailing begins at How Hill - an area dedicated to the conservation of Broads habitats. Keep your eyes peeled for swallowtail butterflies and Konik ponies. From How Hill, we sail up the River Ant passing small picturesque riverside village of Irstead, with thatched cottages. Keep the binoculars to hand for marsh harriers and more. Our destination is Barton Broad, the second largest of the Norfolk Broads and rumoured to be where Admiral Nelson learnt to sail. Barton Broad is rich in wildlife and there will be time to disembark and explore before returning to How Hill.      

A stop will be made en-route, typically at one of the surrounding staithes, for lunch. Meals and other refreshments are provided fresh from the How Hill kitchen. Lunch is served with wine or a soft drink. Morning and afternoon hot drinks are accompanied by either homemade biscuits or some of How Hill's superb cake. It is important to advise us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. 

This sailing will be aboard Ardea, which is Latin for Heron. She is the  largest pleasure wherry ever built and often referred to as the most  luxurious wherry in the WYC fleet. 

Please park in the car park at How Hill, NR29 5PG by 9.45am and walk across the field towards the river where Hathor will be moored at the Staithe.   

We operate on "wherry time", subject to wind and tide, and so our arrival and any interim stops may not always be as planned.
