How Hill to Barton & return, aboard Hathor
Starting from the hamlet of How Hill you’ll sail up the River Ant past typical Broads villages to Barton Broad, the second largest of the Norfolk Broads and an area rich in birdlife. This trip will be aboard our oldest wherry, Hathor, which features a unique Egyptian themed interior.

About the day
This sailing begins at How Hill - an area dedicated to the conservation of Broads habitats. Keep your eyes peeled for swallowtail butterflies and Konik ponies. From How Hill, we sail up the River Ant passing the small pictuesque riverside village of Irstead, with thatched cottages. Keep the binoculars to hand for marsh harriers and more. Our destination is Barton Broad, the second largest of the Norfolk Broads and rumoured to be where Admiral Nelson learnt to sail. Barton Broad is rich in wildlife and there will be time to disembark and explore before returning to How Hill.
This sailing will be aboard Hathor, our oldest wherry. Her lavish and stylish interior is extremely comfortable, with the star attraction being her beautiful inlaid woodwork featuring ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Please park in the car park at How Hill, NR29 5PG by 9.45am and walk across the field towards the river where Hathor will be moored at the Staithe.
We operate on "wherry time", subject to wind and tide, and so our arrival and any interim stops may not always be as planned.
