Time & Location

03 Aug 2023, 15:00 – 17:00

Museum of the Broads., Staithe Rd, Stalham, Norwich NR12 9DA, UK

About the day

This steam and sail experience begins at the Museum of the Broads, a museum in the boating centre of Stalham dedicated to Broadland life. From the museum you’ll steam to Barton Broad on Falcon, a unique Victorian steam launch. At Barton Broad swap steam for sail power and enjoy a sail around the Broad aboard one of our wherry yachts, then switch back to Falcon and steam back to the museum at Stalham.

The whole experience lasts around two hours. The last trip of the day will steam out on Falcon and sail back to the museum. As the price includes museum admission, make sure you allow time to look around the excellent displays too; they feature many a wherry but much more besides. Please note that the Museum is open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday in the summer, from 11am - 3pm. For further details please check the Museum's website: www.museumofthebroads.org.uk

There is parking on the roadside on Staithe Road near the Museum, NR12 9DA. Please be ready to board Falcon 15 minutes before your departure time.

The 'sail' section of the steam and sail experience will be aboard one of our three wherry yachts: Olive, Norada or White Moth. These surviving wherry yachts were all built by the Wroxham based boatbuilder and designer Ernest Collins. They spent over three decades within his hire fleet, followed by a period of mixed fortunes in private ownership after World War II, before they were reunited in 2012 by the Wherry Yacht Charter Charitable Trust.
