February 2018 - winter maintenance progress

Work has carried on over the winter at the wherry base, with regular volunteers working on Tuesdays to support our operations manager Dean. This year it was Olive's turn to come out onto the slipway, and thankfully there has not been a great deal of structural work needed. Tasks have included winterising the boats (removing items to dry storage), restoring life rings, and creating new quants from the remains of those that have been broken in use. Volunteers also carry out general work at the base such as tidying the working areas and clearing leaves from access paths, and more substantial tasks such as removing a tree stump from near the slipway, and preparing to replace the mast on the river frontage that serves as a support for the lifting bridge over the dyke. Our thanks to all involved.
