Friends of WYCCT

WYCCT needs your help to keep our wherries sailing. Perhaps you would like to volunteer as crew or to help with restoration and maintenance? Become a Friend! The Friends arm of the Trust offers individuals and organisations the opportunity to subscribe as a supporter, and also runs public fundraising events such as the annual Wherry Tour.

The Friends of WYCCT is a sub-committee of the Trust and does not have elections or named roles. The committee is chaired by Katy Walters and currently includes Jane Bryant, Bill Housden, Peter Bower, Pauline Simpson, Laura Chellis, Ellen Fernau and Marlene Corke, although contributions are welcome from any member. This group carries out fundraising activities and recruits further members to support the work of the Trust on an ongoing basis. Volunteers, in the form of wherry crew, guides for wherry viewings, staff on fundraising stalls, events organisers, and those giving practical help with Friends administration and the maintenance and restoration of our base and boats, are all drawn from the Friends.

As a Friend you will receive:

• The satisfaction of knowing that your subscription will help to protect, restore and sail the wherries.
• Our quarterly newsletter, The Gaff Line.
• Exclusive invitations to trips and social events.
• Early information on public events, the Wherry Tour and other sailing opportunities.
• The opportunity to be involved on a practical level, either through crew training, or maintenance and repair of the wherries and their base.
• The opportunity to get involved at committee level or with administration.

Minimum annual contributions for Friends membership are £15 for an individual and £30 for a family, and we also offer life membership for £250; our grateful thanks to those who choose to make additional donations on top of these sums. Corporate membership is currently under review so that we can improve our offering to organisations wishing to support us - please contact us if you are interested.

If you would like to arrange membership as a gift for Christmas, a birthday or any other occasion, we're very happy to do so - simply fill in the relevant sections of our form (below). We also welcome one-off donations from anyone who does not wish to join as a Friend.
